While bath towels, and washcloths in particular, are something we all use on an almost daily basis, they tend to be the one thing in our home that we put very little thought into when we purchase them. Sure we want something that is soft and plush, but unless you have an unlimited budget, towels are not something you want to spend your entire paycheck on.
For me, I guess you can say I am a bit of a snob when it comes to my towels. I want something that is soft and plush, but paying $20 or more for just one towel is a bit too much for my taste, regardless of how plush they may claim to be.
My all time favorite towels right now are the bamboo bath towels that we found on overstock at a local discount store. So when I found a set of 6 bamboo washcloths by Au Natruel Origins I had to give them a try. I am very particular when it comes to my washcloths, I don’t like them to be too thick, so I have been using the same washcloths for about 10 years, and needless to say they are starting to show a bit of wear, and are in need of being replaced but I can’t bring myself to part with them just yet.
When these organic bamboo towels first arrived at my home, they had the soft, fuzzy feel that I was expecting, without being overly thick. At the time of this writing a set of 6 cost $14,98 on Amazon, which breaks down to about $2.50 a washcloth, which is relatively affordable when compared to the traditional cotton washcloths found at your local store.
I like bamboo wash cloths and towels specifically because they are made from a sustainable material. Bamboo grows much faster than any other material, eliminating the extended wait time for plant regeneration.
While it is common to find bamboo washcloths in a variety of colors, the bamboo washcloths by Au Natruel Origins maintain their natural color, which means they are free of dyes, and this brand uses organic bamboo, which means its free of harmful pesticides as well, making these towels perfect for those with sensitive skin. Bamboo is naturally anti-bacterial, so they will not develop the stinky, musty smell as quickly as traditional towels.
When these organic bamboo towels first arrived at my home, I loved the soft feel of the bamboo washcloth right away, although they did seem a bit smaller than a traditional washcloth. As with any fabric product that comes into my home, I washed these bamboo wash cloths prior to use. The instructions requested they be washed on gentile cycle, which I thought was a bit unusual for a bath towel. I have since washed them with my other towels on regular cycle, and have not noticed any undue wear on these washcloths.
Overall, I am very happy with the bamboo washcloths by Au Natruel Origins but my only complaint is the size. They are a bit smaller than a traditional washcloth, as you can see in the photo at left. The darker towel on the bottom is the Canopy brand from Target, and the one on the top is the bamboo wash cloth. The traditional wash cloth measures 11.5″ x 10.5″, while the bamboo washcloth is only 9.5″ in size, about a half inch smaller than the Amazon listing stated they were.
This size difference is actually quite apparent when you hold this towel in your hand. You actually feel like you are missing something, giving the impression that these towels are designed particularly for babies instead of adult use.
Size aside, I am still quite happy with these bamboo washcloths. They have the soft feel that I love, and they are not overly thick, making them a great replacement for the ratty washcloths that I have been using for years. My only recommendation to the manufacturer would be to make them a bit bigger so they equal the size of a traditional washcloth. Other than that, you can’t beat the price for a set of 6 bamboo washcloths, as you can easily spend much more than that at your local store.
So if you are looking to update your washcloths, I do recommend giving these bamboo washcloths by Au Natruel Origins a try. While the size is a bit smaller than traditional washcloths, the fabric quality more than makes up for it, making them a great addition to any home.
