Powerful Odor Absorption in a Small Package – A Sagano Activated Charcoal Odor Absorber Review

As a home with three cats and one Mini Schnauzer, cleaning is a never ending task when it comes to keeping pet odors at bay. One of the constant struggles comes in the form of not one but 3 litter boxes, and the occasional noxious odor that may waft out of it after any of the three kitties deposits a stinky #2.

While two of our litter boxes are automatic, the third is a manual box because one of my kitties will not set foot in the automatic ones, the reason why is still unknown. And no matter how much I try to stay on top of the cleanliness of the litter box, odors do still happen to occur, so when I found this Natural air freshener by Sagano I had to give it a try. I had seen other air fresheners, and I liked the fact that this one was completely natural, the only concern was whether it would be large enough to handle the space where the stinky litter box resided.

When this natural air purifier arrived at my home, I have to say it was a bit smaller than I wasIMG_2153[1] expecting, leading me to believe that it would not be large enough to tackle the litter box odors since the litter box resides in our spare bedroom. I then changed the planned use for this natural air freshener and decided to place it in our master closet.

As a house full of pets, our closet door remains closed at all times, and needless to say the air becomes a bit stagnant and somewhat stinky since our hamper also resides in the closet.  Due to its small footprint, I was able to easily place it on the shelf without having to do an entire closet reorganization to accommodate it.  The Sagano air purifier utilizes a blend of bamboo activated charcoal, making the ingredients in this air purifier completely natural and safe for any area of the home.

I have had this natural air purifier in my closet for about a month now, and I have to say it works like a charm. I never actually realized how stinky our closet actually was until the odors were no longer there. I had tried the gel balls that were supposed to remove odor, but they seemed mask the odor, and lasted a very short amount of time. I have not had to touch this activated charcoal air filter since I placed it in the closet, and it has just continued to work. The package states it will last up to two years, you just need to refresh the charcoal packet with the power of the sun, so it should be interesting to see if that holds true.

Overall I am thrilled with this little natural air purifier by Sagano. I would have to say that my only complaint is that it was a bit bigger to be able to handle larger areas as this particular model is designed for smaller spaces like your refrigerator or a closet, definitely not large enough for a bedroom. Other than that I highly recommend this product and would without a doubt buy it again in the future.

Durable and Trendy Plastic Juice Glasses – A Scandinovia Premium Drinking Glass Review

scandinoviaglassesWhether you are a household of one, or a family of five, the one thing we can never seem to have enough of is glasses. Its a common staple in every kitchen cabinet, and its almost impossible to have too many. One glass for breakfast another for lunch and then one with dinner, and you’ve already gone through three of the glasses in an average 4 piece set.

To make matters worse, traditional glass glasses, have an increased risk of unexpected breakage. A glass that accidentally gets knocked off the table and shatters on the floor, or one that gets cracked in the dishwasher, and you can soon find yourself resorting to paper cups because the multi-piece drinking glass set that you thought would last for years, failed you in a matter of months.

A great alternative to glass is actually plastic, but of course that is not without its own faults. Cheaply made plastic glasses may contain various chemicals that can be toxic to you as well as your children. Due to these health concerns, more and more manufacturers have now been making products that are specified as BPA free. BPA, otherwise known as Bisphenol A,  is a chemical that has been used in plastics since way back in the 1960’s, and research is finding that this chemical can actually seep into foods and beverages placed in containers that contain this chemical, resulting in an increased risk for a variety of heath related issues.

You may have seen cans at your local grocery store stating they are BPA free, reusable water bottles and more, all with the BPA free label. Even the drinking glasses in your own kitchen cabinet are now removing BPA from their products, including the premium drinking glasses offered by Scandinovia.

I am always on the lookout for new products to try, and while I do already have a cabinet full of glass juice glasses, I have to say I was intrigued by the idea of a plastic alternative. My husband and I use Tupperware glasses on a daily basis for our water consumption, so I figured these would just be a smaller version of the type of glasses we already had. Making them a great option for juice with breakfast, or a quick glass of water before running out the door to run errands. IMG_1570[1]

When these bpa free glasses first arrived at my home, they looked and felt like I expected they would. Packaging was a bit basic, but to be honest I actually don’t mind simple packaging like this. I would much rather the manufacturer spend the time and money on making a top notch product, than wasting it on flashy packaging that just ends up in the trash. IMG_1571[2]

The colors were bright, and each drinking glass came wrapped in its own plastic sleeve. They are actually a Scandinavian design and are manufactured in Japan, which is somewhat rare in an age where nearly everything seems to come from China.

According to the packaging the juice glasses are dishwasher safe, and they claimed that the flat bottom would prevent water from pooling on them when in the dishwasher, which is a common problem with the other plastic drinking glasses in our home. So of course the first test was to put the juice glasses through the dishwasher and see how they stood up. The glasses cam out looking just like they IMG_1572[1]did when they came out of the package. Colors were still bright, and there was no water on the bottoms of the glasses.

Having limited space in our cabinet, then next test was to see whether or not these bpa free glasses actually could be stacked on top of one another without sticking. Since these glasses had thus far performed as the manufacturer had claimed, it really came as no surprise that they did not stick to each other. I have used them multiple times for a quick drink of water, and have had no issues with grabbing more than the one glass that was required.

Overall I am very happy with these unbreakable glasses by Scandinovia. They are lightweight, easy to care for, and they can standup to what ever life may throw at them. While I do not personally have kids of my own, the light weight nature of these glasses make them great for smaller hands to handle, and they are durable enough to withstand the bumps and drops that may occur. At only $17.95 at the time of this post, you get a set of four high quality bpa free glasses, making them a worthwhile addition to any kitchen cabinet.

Great Touchless Soap Dispenser for Kitchens and Baths – An iZiv Touchless Soap Dispenser Review

SoapDispenser3Whether it is at the kitchen or bathroom sink, liquid soap is the one thing that must always be within easy reach. The problem is unless you have a built in soap dispenser, you are forced to leave an unsightly plastic dispenser bottle on your counter.

While our kitchen has a soap dispenser built into the counter, finding the right dispenser for hand soap in our bathrooms has been a constant struggle. In the past I had used the foaming dispensers from Bath & Body Works, I recently learned that I have a gluten allergy, which includes even topical products. Due to this allergy, I had recently transitioned to using Method hand soap in my bathroom, but had yet to find a good hand soap dispenser for our second bathroom.

While that bathroom is primarily used by my husband, it also functions as our laundry room, as well as a guest bathroom, so I needed to find a hand soap dispenser that was easy to use as well as one that looked good while sitting on the counter.

I have always liked the idea of an automatic hand soap dispenser, but my only experience with one for the home was the Lysol hand soap dispenser, which in no way lived up to my expectations, and quickly got disposed of once we ran out of the soap bottles needed to feed the thing. SoapDispenser1

One one of my travels across the web, I happened to come across the automatic soap dispenser by iZiv. Since I am always up to try new gadgets whenever I find them, I had to give this hand soap dispenser a try.

When this touchless soap dispenser first arrived at my home, I have to say I liked the look of it right away. It had the nice modern stainless steel look, and the reservoir was large enough to hold plenty of liquid soap. The one thing I really liked was that it came with a removable twist IMG_0778[1]on foot, that raised the bathroom soap dispenser up off the counter. That was one of my biggest complaints about the Lysol dispenser. It only had small built in bumps on the bottom that were supposed to be feet, but no matter how careful you were, water always got underneath the dispenser.

With this iZiv liquid soap dispenser, the feet raise it up high enough off the counter that even a bit of water on the counter will not have an effect on this bathroom soap dispenser. This is very important since the batteries that make this touchless soap dispenser work are located at the base of the dispenser and that is obviously something that you do not want water getting into.

Overall we are very happy with this touchless soap dispenser by iZiv. It holds plenty of liquid soap and dispenses the right amount of soap every time, eliminating the chance of dispensing too much and causing soap waste. Our one complaint is that this automatic soap dispenser does not work with rechargeable batteries, only traditional store bought batteries. I wouldn’t say this should be considered a deciding factor in whether or not you should buy this model, it just happens to be a matter of preference for us since we utilize rechargeable batteries for nearly everything in our home that is battery powered. If I had to do it again, I would most definitely purchase this iZiv automaic hand soap dispenser again.

Long Lasting Ice Cubes In A Small Footprint – A Pratico Kitchen Silicone Ice Cube Tray Review

IceCubeTrayWhen it comes to choosing the right kitchen ice cube tray, most of us do not give them a second thought until you find yourself in need of one. My husband and I recently found ourselves in this situation when the ice maker in our existing fridge stopped functioning.

Ice water is one of our go-to beverages throughout the day, and we go through our fair share of ice cubes, particularly on the weekend, so we soon found ourselves searching the house for the old ice cube trays that we knew we had at one point.

After searching all the cabinets, we were only able to locate one tray, when I could have sworn we had two at some point, but one ice cube tray was of course better than nothing. Needless to say it was not long before we found out that that one tray could not supply the amount of ice that we would go through on a daily basis, so the quest was on to find an additional ice cube tray.

We do not have a whole lot of space in our freezer, so I had wanted to find one that would not take up too much space while still providing a fair amount of ice cubes. I knew that silicone was now a common material used in bakeware, but I was not aware that it was now being used to make items like ice cube trays, so when I found the Practico Kitchen Silicone Ice Cube tray I had to give it a try. IMG_0634[1]

When it first arrived at my home, the silicone ice cube tray was just as I was expecting, and I couldn’t wait to try it out. So my husband filled it with water and the wait began. The tray measures only 5.6″ x 5.6″ x1.6″, and makes a total of nine 1.4″ cubes of ice.

My husband was the first one to test the removal of the ice cubes from the new tray, and since neither of us had ever really had any form of experience with any type of silicone bakeware, his first impression of this silicone ice cube tray was that it was a bit strange, and felt a lot like “giving birth to an ice cube.” After a comment I had to try myself, and yes I had to agree with him, it did feel a lot like giving birth, since a small amount of force from the bottom of the tray was required until the ice cube was finally released from its hole.

Then came time for the true test, how long would the ice cubes really last with normal use. My husband and I usually fill up our glasses of ice water right before dinner, and with the traditional sized ice cubes from the standard plastic trays, the ice is commonly melted by the end of the meal, and that is without the help of warm summer temperatures.

IMG_0635[1]We each took three of the ice cubes from the tray, and filled our glasses with water. I will have to say that we were both quite surprised to find that these ice cubes did not finally melt until it was time to go to bed. On a normal weeknight, that is about a three hour time frame, that with traditional ice cubes would have required we refill at least once.

I would like to note something a bit strange that we have begun to notice with this ice cube tray in the past week. A plastic almost vinyl like taste has begun to appear in the water after the ice cubes have melted, and becomes more pronounced as the water gets warmer.  We did not notice this taste at all when we first started using the ice cube tray, and I cannot say for sure if this is a problem with the product itself, or if it is an effect of whatever chemicals and treatments are done to our city water. I think it could potentially be from our water, as we already have issues in our only 8 year old home with the water eating/dissolving anything that is rubber. Rubber gaskets in our sink faucets have completely disintegrated in such a short amount of time, which leads me to think it could potentially be something in the water reacting with the product and not the product itself, but I still wanted to disclose it on the off chance someone else may have experienced a similar issue.  We are currently testing with store bought filtered water to see if this remedies the problem.

Overall, I am very happy with the Practico Kitchen Silicone Ice Cube tray. It delivers bigger ice cubes than the traditional ice cube trays, which eliminates the need to keep refilling your glass every time the ice melts. Although we have experienced a taste issue, I highly doubt it is due to the product itself, and should not discourage you in any way from trying this silicone ice cube tray for yourself.

Sparkling Stainless Steel No Chemicals Needed – A Pro Chef Kitchen Tools Microfiber Cloth Review

IMG_0562I would have to say that house cleaning is one of my least favorite tasks. No matter how much I dislike doing it, it needs to be done, so I am always on the lookout for products that make this task as quick and easy as possible. Having used traditional microfiber cleaning clothes, I was intrigued when I found a company that offered a microfiber cloth that had been designed specifically for cleaning stainless steel.

The stainless steel microfiber cloth came in a three pack from the company Pro Chef Kitchen Tools. Having been accustomed to the the fuzzy form of a microfiber cloth, I was intrigued when these cloths arrived at my door. They were not the traditional fuzzy type, instead they are a smooth, pleated style of of fabric. This design actually keeps the fibers firm, which allows these microfiber cleaning clothes to tackle the task of cleaning that which is in almost every IMG_0563household, Stainless Steel.

While its only my husband and I, we also have a home full of three cats and one dog, so keeping our home pristine is always a constant struggle. Combine that with working a full time job, and running a side business, and the thought of tacking any form of house cleaning never ranks very high on my to-do list. Cleaning always ends up being something that I have to do, not something that I want to do. So when I can find something to make this task easier, I am all for it.

Once these microfiber cleaning clothes arrived at my home, my first test was to tackle the door of our oven. Our hand towel takes up residence on the handle of the oven, so just something as simple as dripping water causes marks and stains on the oven door. I took one a stainless steel cloth out of the package, wet it at the sink, and then went to work.

Since the staining onIMG_0564 the oven door was minor, it took very little effort to get things clean. The dirtiest part of the oven was actually the grate at the bottom of the oven door. As you can sIMG_0565ee in my before and after photos, the before being the left side of the oven, and the after being the right, the microfiber cloth set from Pro Chef Kitchen Tools did a good job of cleaning. The only problem I had was there was still water spots on my oven door. I did try to buff the stains out with a dry cloth, and while it did seem to dull the water marks a bit, it did not make them completely go away.

Now I do not believe this is a negative mark against this stainless steel cleaning cloth, instead the stains seem to have been caused specifically by the minerals and chemicals in our city water. I did apply some Method Stainless Steel cleaner to the door after using these cloths, which helped to dull the look of the water stains. They are now only visible if you are very close up to the door.

Next up was to try and clean our gas stovetop. This is the one appliance in our home that gets the most use, and along with it spills and stains from daily use. In the past I had used a traditional microfiber cloth along with stainless steel cleaner, but that method was not without its problems. First the cleaner never really got the burnt on stains off the stovetop, no matter how hard you scrubbed. Second, the cloth never really picked up the crumbs that were on the stovetop, it just ended up pushing them around, making for additional cleanup tasks commonly in the form of vacuuming the floor because that is were all the crumbs usually ended up.

Cleaning the stovetop is where this stainless steel microfiber cloth really proved its worth. The cloth took off all the traditional stains with ease, but with a bit of elbow grease I was actually able to get the burned on stains that had been there for quite some time off the surface. Having only cleaned one side of the stovetop, I handed the cloth off to my husband to clean the other side to see if he experienced the same results that I had. He too was able to get the burned on stains off, making these microfiber cleaning cloths a keeper in our book.

I had also tackled cleaning the vent grates on our microwave, and while it did take a bit of effort to squeeze the cloth into the space between the grates, it did get the greasy build up off with ease, using nothing more than water. No chemicals required.

Overall, I am very happy with these microfiber cleaning cloths by Pro Chef Kitchen Tools. They are a great addition to my cleaning arsenal, and its nice to finally have a product that does not require the use of chemicals to get the cleaning job done. With these microfiber cloths in my home, I may finally be able to stay on top of keeping our kitchen appliances clean without having to carve hours out of my day to do it.
